Student Athlete Requirements
In order for a student to participate in sports at LCMS he/she must meet the following requirements set by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and the Columbia County School District’s Student Progression Plan (CCSD SPP, 2007-2008).
- The student must be enrolled at Lake City Middle School (LCMS), or home-schooled and zoned for LCMS. For further information about student zones you will need to contact the Columbia County School District @ 386/755-8000.
- Have been promoted the previous year, and carry a 2.0 GPA from the previous semester of attendance. The student must also pass the four (4) core subjects (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) for the semester immediately preceding participation in interscholastic extracurricular student activities (CCSD SPP, p. 14).
- In order for a student to be eligible to participate in interscholastic extracurricular student activities, he/she must maintain satisfactory conduct and, if the student is convicted of, or is found to have committed, a felony or a delinquent act which would have been a felony if committed by an adult, regardless of weather adjudication is withheld, the student’s participation in interscholastic extracurricular activities is contingent upon established an published school board policy (CCSD, SPP, p. 14).
4. Before participation, the student-athlete MUST have the following:
A. A current physical signed by medical personnel (MD, Chiropractor, Physician’s Assistant, or a Licensed Nurse Practitioner).
B. A consent form signed and completed by the student-athlete and legal guardian.
C. Random drug testing form that is signed by the parent, student and notarized.
5. The student-student athlete may participate as a 6th grader, 7th grader, and 8th grader only ONCE and NOT have turned 15 years and 9 months during the sport he/she is participating in (FHSAA rules 11.5.3 & 11.6.3).
6. Once on a team, the student-athlete MUST be present more than half a day in school in order to participate in the contest that day.
