COMPUTER LAB LINKS
- We are excited to
begin another great year in our computer lab! Students not only learn
how to use a
computer, but also have the opportunity to work on skills tested on the
FCAT. We also incorporated many multimedia and internet projects
throughout the year. Students are able to build on previous years
experiences as they progress from kindergarten through fifth grade. A
fun part that students enjoy is our broadcast each morning; THE COOL
CAT CONNECTION. This is produced by many grade levels, and students
throughout
the school are recognized for various programs at Summers.
- Music Education: Allyson
Moore
- Summers is fortunate
to have a music lab where students come for adventures in music.
Students have fun as they learn by doing. They participate in
composing, reading, listening, and performing music. The elements of
music are presented in many ways, including ear training, singing,
playing a variety of instruments, dramatizing and
vocabulary. Students come to know famous composers and their works
through
stories, books, and films. Students participate in music and movement
from
many cultures and generes.

- Physical
Education: Mike Paphides
- In Physical Education
class we expect a wide variety of things. We expect our students to
always do their best and to try and improve on the skills we are
working on each time they come to P.E. We do not expect them to be
perfect, but to give it their all. First and second grades are
beginning classes where a foundation that will be used throughout the
student's life. Third grade is a transition year where a little more is
expected of the students' abilities. Fourth and fifth grades are
classes where the focus is on advanced skills Each year we build upon
the next. Students' improvement is monitored through records from
physical fitness testing, to improvements in their basketball shooting
skills. We believe
every students can do their best and that they can work to improve
their
skills no matter what their individual ability level.

Art classes at Summers are all about doing your
best, using creativity,
solving problems, and learning about the past, present and
future. All
student artists are discovering their abilities and learning about
"sticking to it"---persistence. By practicing they increase their
skills, discover the world around them, and experience the joy of
creating. We discuss and write about our art. We read books
and share
in class. We compare artworks to describe, analyze, evaluate and
decide. Students form opinions based on learning to decide if it
meets
standards of good ideas, craftsmanship, record, and art processes.
We love to display the students' art. We have
work at the CCSB
offices, on the e-gallery, at the public library, in the Summers Gallery
in the art room, in the tax collector's office, and at the SunState
Bank. We take turns with other schools showcasing artists
throughout the year. March is "Art-in the -Schools Month". We
have a show of all Columbia County schools at the Lake City Mall.
In May we have a district wide art celebration and award's ceremony at
the CCSB . Notes are sent
home to notify participants. We are so proud of our Summers
artists.
